In all we do, we consider how our actions impact People, Society and the Environment.

As a global player, Pon has remained true to its family roots. As a family business, we understand the value of longstanding relationships. With our customers, as well as with our employees and business partners. Together with our brands we sponsor individual sports talent, teams and associations as well as community initiatives. Some examples:

Cycling sport
With various top brands in our bicycle portfolio, it’s no secret that Pon has an affinity for competitive cycling. Cervélo has partnered up with the South African Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka and British Cycling Team. On four wheels, Pon’s ŠKODA team works closely with major events such as the Tour de France, Giro d’Italia, Vuelta a España and the Cycling World Championships.

Pon believes in building sustainable relationships in the community. Time2help is a program that bears out this philosophy. Pon employees in the United States are allowed to spend one percent of their yearly work hours on a volunteer’s project of their choice. For example, the Ronald McDonald House Charities. In the meantime, in Norway, safety education projects are being implemented for students at technical colleges. This is how Pon invests in building the next generation of expertise and skills.

Pon identifies with the mentality and ambition of top athletes. We, too, push ourselves every day to deliver an even better result. Pon has been a partner of the Dutch Olympic Committee (NOC*NSF) for more than 25 years, while some 130 top athletes and national sports coaches drive a Volkswagen. Koninklijke Gazelle developed the ‘Orange Gazelle’ especially for the Dutch Olympic team, as a practical solution for commuting around the Olympic Village.

Pon admires determination, discipline and performance. We support upcoming sports talents such as gymnast Epke Zonderland, our ambassador for Volkswagen and Gazelle. Epke has been a national hero since his sensational gold medal at the London Olympics. Dutch Golf pro, Joost Luiten, is another Pon ambassador. Joost is ranked among the world’s top 30 golfers and displays the Audi and Pon Cat logos when competing.

Rijksmuseum (National Art Gallery)
Since 1 January, 2013, Pon has been a sponsor of the Rijksmuseum. As a sponsor, we assist the museum’s acquisitions and restorations of 20th century art. And, we’re proud to report that the first sketch of the Volkswagen Transporter, made in 1947 by Ben Pon Sr., has a permanent place in the collection of the Rijksmuseum. This was the model that was taken into production and millions of Volkswagens Transporters were built since.

Navigating on natural gas
Pon looks to the future, also in the area of sustainability. Take the maritime sector. The traditional diesel engine demands a heavy toll on air quality. Natural gas is a cleaner and more affordable alternative. This is why Pon Power developed the Dual-Fuel system for ship’s engines. The Dutch freight vessel ‘Argonon’ was the world’s first ship to fuel its engines with both natural gas (80%) and diesel (only 20%).

Traffic jams and parking problems are being dissolved thanks to the e-bike. Moreover, e-bikes are easy on the environment and a low cost alternative to the car. They’re ideal for commuting shorter distances in city areas. Pon brands Gazelle, FOCUS and Kalkhoff are at the forefront of innovative e-bike technologies, developed for users of all ages.

KNVB (Royal Dutch Football Association)
Soccer matches are more enjoyable when they show good sportsmanship and no one gets injured. Volkswagen, together with the KNVB (Dutch National Football Association) has introduced the Blue Card, a symbolic gesture exchanged between soccer teams to express their appreciation for good sportsmanship. Pon’s own tire brand, Continental, is now the KNVB’s official warming-up partner. A good warm-up has proven to reduce injuries on the field, with the side effect of reducing the cost to society of medical treatment and economic loss due to incapacitation.
